Izziyana Suhaimi

Izziyana Suhaimi's unusual pen, ink and embroidered portraiture explores the convergence between traditional and popular culture.

As with most successful mixed-media works, I love the combination of different materials and textures, but I think that these are especially successful in their use of embroidery as fashion choice. Whether its a pattern that's obscuring or enhancing the figure, the thread-as-clothing is as much of an integral and compelling part of the work as the portrait itself.
