2014 calendars: part 7

2014 is almost here, but don't worry! I've still got you covered on the calendar front. This week is all about your year in objects, from chairs to monuments, and bicycles too.

First up is a chair calendar that the decorative arts historian in all of us will love - from classical to contemporary, and everything in between, Rocket Ink's got you covered. Each month features an illustration of a unique historical masterpiece, including its maker and date.

But if furniture's not your style, why not go around the world with Dear Hancock's Monumental Cities calendar? Featuring 12 illustrations of some of the world's most well-known and loved landmarks and monuments, this calendar is guaranteed to give you travel ideas for 2014.

And finally, another calendar that really gets around is Forest & Waves' 2014 Bicycle Calendar. Each month features a bicycle - and one unicycle! - whose frame spells out the month.

Bicycles are great for city living, but pint-sized apartments can make storage a bit difficult. bike like a new yorker

As both a New Yorker who loves her bike and has come to increasingly rely on it to get around town over the past few years, and as an appreciator of good graphic design, I absolutely love Mother New York's Bike Like a New Yorker ad campaign.

Created for BikeNYC in partnership with Transportation Alternatives, the campaign was created in order to stay ahead of the debate on the upcoming bike share program by drawing attention to cyclists in the city. And as you can see by the end product, it's a job very well accomplished. lightning vest

I was a fan of Dargelos' unique, handmade bicycle accessories to begin with, but their latest product, the Lightning Vest, has taken my respect to a whole new level.

An incredible combination of elegant design and functionality, the Lightning Vest is a hand-netted, highly visible safety vest made from a custom developed 3M reflective material. Not only can it can be worn year round, day or night, over pretty much anything, but the neck opening is wide enough to pass over your helmet, and the netting is large enough for your hands to access your pockets. Very strong, lightweight and compact enough to fit in your pocket without ever getting tangled, the Lightning Vest is by far, one of the coolest bike accessories I've ever seen.
