2012 calendars

Well well fall, so we meet again. I'm not quite sure how the summer went by so quickly, but these past few days in New York have really felt autumn-like in the best possible way. Now, while there are a lot of things to love about the season, as many of you already know, one of my favorites is that the beginning of fall is also the beginning of calendar season. And it's pretty clear how I feel about calendars; from the traditional paper to cloth, in print form or bound, I adore how creative people get with them. So get excited friends, because once a month or so up through the new year I'll be bringing you a selection of my favorite picks for 2012 calendars, starting with this week's pretty patterned options.

First up, a 12 month calendar featuring drawings and patterns reflecting geometry and nature, from Leah Duncan. In a color palate of dark indigo, gold, coral, beige, gray, and pink, it's very 2012. But if you're not crazy about the use of both geometric forms and botanicals all in one calendar, you don't worry have to worry because Leah's got you covered, too, with her poster-sized single-themed floral and geometric calendars.

Next, we have this lovely range of letterpress calendars, from Smock. The top Oxford pattern is my favorite, but I love that each of the options, from Pollen to Peacock and Sorbet, are all so different, and thus appealing to different people.

And then, of course, there's Katie Vernon, of ChipmunkCheek's 2012 calendar. Katie's combined her awesome flora and fauna illustrations into one colorful calendar covering a wide range of imagery. And like all good print calendars, it's easy to just remove the dates at the bottom and then voila! - 12 new works of art to hang on your walls far beyond 2012.
